The Pirate Off-Road Nation began as a hobby in 2014. Jeff Hiltz had (and still has) a popular YouTube channel of off-road videos called “Pirate Jeep Productions” with close to 10,000 subscribers. In 2007, he started a Facebook group for his channel. Fast-forward to 2014, and some of his followers suggested he start a club. As Jeff’s nickname was always “Pirate” due to losing his eye when he was 19 years old and wearing an eye patch, he decided to name the new club “Pirate Off-Road Nation.”
The nation grew rapidly and people soon wanted decals, t-shirts, hats and other items to promote the club. With this rapid growth, Jeff began approaching off-road companies about group discounts for club members. Many of the companies required a way to keep track of and identify genuine members so we began selling memberships to the club, which would give them an identification number and card they could present for purchases at participating retailers for discounts. Being a paid member would also allow members-only access to regular product give-aways from our store.
Cindy (his wife and partner) became self-taught at graphic design and soon started designing decals, clothing and hats for the members. Equipment and raw materials were bought to make the products, and we soon realized this was no longer a hobby. We now work at this business full time, out of our home.
As of January 2021, the Nation has grown to over 4700 paid members and close to 18,000 members of the Facebook group.
Pirate Off-Road Nation strives to be a leader in the full-sized vehicle class of the off-road community by promoting off-roading as a fun, safe, family-friendly outdoor experience, while respecting and preserving our natural environment. With the many years of combined experience of our chapter leaders and trail guides, we aim to welcome new folks to the sport and get them started off on the right foot with the education and camaraderie the Nation can provide. Our runs and events are fun, educational, and bring people together for good times and fond memories.
Our location is based out of our home in Springhill, Nova Scotia. Local pick-up of products are welcomed as long as Covid-19 precautions are followed. We do not want our physical home address on the www, but will give it to you in a private message if you have made a purchase. If you already know our location, please contact us beforehand to make arrangements for a pick-up.
